  • From the moment I was shown to my room by Lynne, everything about what to expect was explained to me and both she and Roxanne were so helpful in making me feel comfortable and confident in what to expect. All the nursing staff that first day had time to chat with me and listened to any concerns I may have had. After my procedure I was cared for in recovery and felt so at ease with everything going on around me, the anaesthetist (who's name I didn't get) even had time to speak with me along with Mr Miakhil, to reassure me everything had gone well. I was returned to the ward, from recovery, by Dave the porter who was very pleasant and we passed the time chatting, which again put me at ease. Once on the ward I was treated so well by everyone involved, including the catering staff who even altered my evening meal as I preferred a different option to my initial choice, nothing was too much trouble. Sharon , the night nurse introduced herself at the start of her shift and spent time with me explaining what to expect during the night regarding my medication and treatment. I was constantly attended to during the night and felt safe and comfortable. The following day all the staff were just as helpful and reassuring as previously and I could not have had any better care. While I don't remember all the names of the staff who dealt with me I wanted to make a special mention of Beata, the night nurse who looked after me on Tuesday night. From the moment she introduced herself with a friendly smile she put me at my ease as to what to expect regarding my recovery process. I know she was very busy that night but she made a point of checking on me regularly and along with the other nurse on duty helped me understand what was to come in terms of my catheter removal and subsequent bladder scans. I expected this procedure would be carried out by the day-shift team but was so surprised at 7:30 to see Beata at the door to my room organised to remove my catheter, as I knew her shift was coming to an end. It was quite clear it was important for her to finish her shift having done everything she could for me in the most professional and caring way. I can honestly say that the way she dealt with me, and I'm sure other patients too, meant that my recovery process started in a very positive way. She is a bright star among the many stars you have there ! I was discharged that morning and left feeling so full of energy and optimism for the future and you all played a big part in that, so thank you so much. It is very rare for me to spend time putting words to my experiences but with the level of care I received from everyone at the Fitzwilliam hospital I thought it important to pass on my heartfelt thanks and would be grateful if you could share this with all the staff involved.
