Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS): A New Treatment for Glaucoma

As cataract surgery has evolved over the recent years, a new era of glaucoma procedures has arisen, using micro-pulse lasers, micro-stents, micro-tubes and micro-shunts. Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) is a modern treatment option that gently lowers pressure inside the eye, which is the main cause of glaucoma progression.

MIGS can often be performed at the same time as cataract surgery, usually being less than half an hour on the operating table, under local or topical anaesthesia, significantly reducing intraocular pressure (IOP), as well reducing the burden of daily eye-drops - making it a convenient option for many patients.

At Oaks Hospital, we offer a range of MIGS procedures here with experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist, Mr Dimitriou, a leading specialist in glaucoma care.
